ADVANCED INTERNAL ENGINE REPAIRS & REBUILDING

When an engine suffers from low compression, severe overheating, broken timing components, or internal bearing failure, you need certified mechanics with heavy mechanical precision tooling rather than simple part-swappers.

At Centennial Tire & Auto Service in Hamilton, our licensed engine rebuilders specialize in complete cylinder head overhauls, MLS head gasket replacement, valve guide repairs, timing chain guide rebuilds, and complete crate engine swaps with total factory precision.

Capabilities

CORE ENGINE REPAIR DISCIPLINES

⚙️ Timing Belt & Chain Systems

Interference engine timing belt replacements, hydraulic tensioners, and variable valve timing (VVT) phasers.

🔥 Head Gasket & Cylinder Heads

Multi-layer steel (MLS) head gasket replacements, deck resurfacing, valve grinding, and crack pressure testing.

🛢️ Oil Pump & Internal Bearings

Rod bearing inspections, crankshaft polishing, high-pressure oil pump replacement, and oil gallery cleanouts.

💧 Cooling System & Water Pumps

Internal water pumps, thermostat housings, radiator core flushes, and thermal relief bypass valve repairs.

Failure Signals

SYMPTOMS OF CRITICAL ENGINE FAILURE

💨 Thick White Sweet-Smelling Smoke

Blown head gasket leaking pressurized coolant directly into the combustion chamber.

🔨 Deep Metallic Engine Knock

Spun rod bearing or wrist pin play indicating severe oil starvation; shutdown engine immediately.

🥛 Milky "Milkshake" Oil on Dipstick

Engine oil and coolant mixing inside crankcase due to failed oil cooler or cracked head.

🌡️ Rapid Engine Overheating

Failed water pump impeller or blocked coolant passages causing localized thermal warpage.

Workflow

OUR 3-STAGE ENGINE REBUILD PROCESS

STAGE // 01 Pressure & Leak-Down Test

Cylinder bore scope camera inspection and digital compression leakage audit.

STAGE // 02 Precision Teardown & Machining

Component micrometer measurement, head skimming, and ultrasonic cleaning.

STAGE // 03 Torque-Angle Assembly & Testing

Reassembly to factory angle specs, timing sync, oil pressure priming, and road test.

FAQs

ENGINE REPAIR QUESTIONS

What is the difference between timing belt and timing chain replacement? +

Timing belts are rubber and require mandatory replacement every 100,000 to 160,000 km to prevent catastrophic valve piston contact. Timing chains are metal and lubricated by engine oil; they are replaced when low oil maintenance causes chain stretch or guide wear.

Is it better to repair a blown head gasket or replace the whole engine? +

If caught early without cylinder head warping or bottom-end bearing damage, a head gasket replacement with machine resurfacing is far more cost-effective. We perform full leak-down testing first to recommend the most economical option.
